We were approached by the USFS this fall to help raise funds for a trail project on Alden Gulch. The Alden Gulch trail spurs to the north off of very popular Osberg Ridge Trail around 2/3 of the way from the Baker Creek Parking area. The trail was greatly affected after fires ran through the area. You can access the bottom of Alden Gulch about 4 miles up Baker Creek road. This new trail is going to be multi-use with a focus on making it a really great mountain bike trail. With this new re-route it will give people the ability to park at the bottom of Alden Gulch, ride up Baker Creek Road to the Lost Shirt Trail and access Osberg Ridge towards town. Riders will be able to ride the 2/3 of Osberg Ridge before descending 5.2 miles back to their car.
It just so happens that this project coincides with an effort that IMBA has undertaken called Dig In. IMBA started with some funding for groups that applied with more fundraising going until the end of December. The best part of this effort is that you can contribute to the entire effort or just one project in particular. We are trying to raise around $15,000 over the next month and a half for our project. At this point through a generous donation from Rebecca’s Private Idaho and a match by us we are at about $9,000. We have a little work to do! This is a national program but if you ojnly want to donate to our specific project you can do that.
