Bike advocacy is an important means for representing the collective needs and concerns of cyclists on a local and national level. Bike advocates help to shape policy that affect many of our everyday lives, improving the livability of our communities and recreational resources we all benefit from. We are able to communicate the physical and economic benefits to decision makers who are shaping transportation infrastructure investments, land managers who are developing recreational plans and even businesses who want to have a healthier and more productive and happier workforce.
Our number one priority is to represent the membership. We’ll be listening to all of the corporate and individual members and taking on the challenges they ask us to, whether it’s in our state capital or the nations capital. We’ll work closely with IMBA and People for Bikes to ensure best practices are adhered to and to ensure we have the tools at our disposal to create a vibrant bike friendly community. We will listen to the needs of all cyclists, young and old, road or dirt, commuter or competitor, to ensure our collective voice is represented when called upon.
Our value to the membership will be; Advocacy, Stewardship and Community.
We will lobby in Washington DC and in Idaho on a state and local level to ensure there are Safe Routes and corridors so that cyclists and pedestrians can move about safely and with ease. We will organize in reaction to cyclists rights being infringed upon and work proactively with like-minded entities to ensure our voice is strong and loud.
We will be good stewards of the land, the resources lent to us and for the activity of cycling in general. We will be inclusive of all kinds of human powered mobility and preserve cycling opportunities for the generations that come. We will have a positive impact on our region and leave it better than we found it.
Events are an economic driver for our region, there are many businesses that are dependent on the cycle-tourism revenue from bike events. We will ensure that the community offers healthy events with numerous opportunities to showcase our areas best cycling experiences. The Sawtooth Century, Ride Sun Valley and Rebecca’s Private Idaho are just a few of the many rich opportunities we will nurture to ensure the economic benefits of cycling are realized in the Wood River Valley.
